Handbag Lust
It seems every time I go out to a restaurant, bar, or just drive downtown, I find myself checking out the handbags other women are carrying. The bags catch my attention and hold it. I feel embarrassed because I'm staring, but I'm trying to read the label on your purse.
Every bag says something different. Does she carry Coach, Gucci, Michael Kors or some unknown brand. Is her bag unique or does it try to imitate the big name designers. Is she so proud of her bag that she carries monogrammed print or does the color coordinate with her outfit? Does it zip closed or snap. What does all that all say about the woman carrying that handbag?
If she wears a bold monogram or highly distinguishable print, she's proud of what she's obtained in life and likes to flaunt her accomplishments. It's like a status symbol to let everyone know you're carrying a $500 or more accessory. Is that necessary? Of course not. A homemade bag made from recycled dresses will carry your stuff, but it tells a completely different story about you.
Is is made of leather or vinyl? Is it canvas or cloth? Is it classic black or bold colored? Is it large or petite? Is it metallic or plain? Curvy or square?
If she chooses not to sport a designer accessory, then she's more concerned with functionality and price than style. A lot of higher end designers don't care much about functionality but rather focus on outward appearance. That doesn't satisfy the needs of a frugal shopper who needs more pockets to shove her stuff in.
Even though the abundance of pockets are hard to find, I find myself drawn back to Fendi, Prada, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton year after year. It's an obsession I've had since college and has only grown over the years. It's a handbag lust I've developed and this is my tribute to it. So many bags and not enough money in the world to buy them all. How does a girl decide which ones to add to her collection. Which ones will temporarily feed the addiction? Feed the lust for handbags!
